In the first five months of 2019, Hubei’s foreign trade turnover amounted to 137.35 billion yuan, up 15 percent year on year, realizing 10.9 percentage points higher than the national average, according to statistics released by the Wuhan Customs on June 13.
Exports rose by 13.9 percent to 87.04 billion yuan, while imports grew by 16.8 percent to 50.31 billion yuan, which were respectively 7.8 and 15 percentage points higher than average national level.
In May, the overall import-export volume of Hubei Province reached 30.03 billion yuan.
The European Union was Hubei's largest trading partner during this period, followed by the ASEAN, the United States and Japan, with their bilateral trade value increasing by 10.2 percent, 37.2 percent, 15.5 percent and 16.4 percent, respectively.
Trade with Belt and Road countries totaled 38.67 billion yuan, jumping by 21.5 percent year on year, 6.5 percentage points higher than Hubei’s overall pace.
Exports of mechanical and electrical products represented over 50 percent of the province’s total exports. Imports of mechanical equipments and instruments were on the upswing, soaring by 61.3 percent and 25.8 percent, respectively.
In the first five months, Wuhan accounted for 58.9 percent of Hubei's total foreign trade. And Qianjiang take the lead with a growth rate of 2.2 times.
