China-Laos railway puts Hubei's foreign trade on fast track
2022-03-22

A freight train, carrying 7.02 tons of disposable non-woven isolation gowns, departed from Wujiashan station in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province for Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province recently.

The goods will be finally transported to Laos via the China-Laos Railway, a landmark project connecting Kunming with Vientiane, capital of Laos.

This is the first time that Hubei-made goods have been transported to Laos via the China-Laos Railway. It saves more time compared with rail-sea  intermodal transportation and road transportation, according to Liu Hongtao, head of Wujiashan station.

Opening to traffic on Dec. 3, 2021, the China-Laos Railway is the first overseas railway jointly constructed and operated by the two countries. As the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement entered into force in January, the destinations of international freight via China-Laos Railway have been expanded to more countries and regions including Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore and Bangladesh.
