The collective delegation of diplomatic envoys to China, comprising 34 representatives from 21 Latin American and Caribbean countries, visited Yichang City on April 29, wrapping up their four-day tour in Hubei Province.
They made stops at the Three Gorges Dam and Xujiachong Village, where 90 percent of the residents are migrants from the Three Gorges Dam region.
"It is the largest hydroelectric project in the world," an official from China Three Gorges Corporation presented in front of the dam, adding that more than 1399.1 billion kw/h of electricity had been produced until December 2020.
"It's amazing!" Luis Quesada, Ambassador of Peru to China gasped. He noted that Peru has attached great importance to cooperation with Hubei in the hydraulic and hydroelectric fields and China Three Gorges Corporation had participated in the construction of San Gaban III hydroelectric power plant project in Peru.
Luis Schmidt Montes, Ambassador of Chile to China, is a "regular visitor" to Yichang. “This is my fourth visit to the city and each time I have new discoveries,” he said, stressing that the Three Gorges project was the crystallization of human wisdom.
In Xujiachong Village, the envoys looked at the resettlement of migrants. "How does the village help migrants increase their income and secure their lives?" Suriname Ambassador to China Patty Chen asked. "Is there vocational training for migrants? How are the production materials allocated?" asked Rodrigo Delgado, Costa Rican Ambassador to China.
Zhou Zhengying, deputy mayor of Yichang City, explained that the government is responsible for allocating land and houses to the relocated villagers and providing them with political support to help them integrate into the new environment as soon as possible.
"The embroidery base and e-commerce station in the village can create jobs and offer vocational training for the villagers," Party committee secretary of Taipingxi Township Zhang Nina introduced .
