The Wuhan East Lake High-tech Zone (Optics Valley of China) on February 20 released its development targets for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) and long-range objectives for 2035.
The zone said it will strive to make new strides in economic development, aiming to push GDP to 400-billion-yuan mark by 2025.
The zone proposed three major development tasks for the 14th Five-Year Plan period: scientific and technological innovation, industrial development and industry-city integration. In the five years, a new innovative development pattern will form in the zone, taking East Lake Science City as the engine of development, Optics Valley Sci-tech Innovation Corridor and Optics Valley Ecological Corridor as the support.
In terms of scientific and technological innovation, the zone will launch the construction of East Lake Science City and the Science Island of Optics Valley, unveil five provincial laboratories and optimize two large-scale science facilities. By 2025, the zone is expected to see investments in R&D of over 10 percent of its economic aggregates, a double number of invention patents, 10,000 high-tech companies and 100 listed companies.
In terms of industrial development, the Optical Valley will continue to develop its pillar industries (optoelectronic information and health), promote in-depth integration between the digital economy and new consumption and spawn a number of future-leading original industries.
In terms of city-industry integration, the zone will improve transport, education, medical care, culture, ecology and social security system to offer the people a better life quality and accelerate construction of several projects, including the Optical Valley Yangtze River Bridge, Optical Valley South Railway Station and Wuhan Metro Line 19, Line 9, Line 13, Line 29 and sky train.
In addition, the zone will build a new hospital, a batch of schools as well as the Optic Valley Ecological Corridor which stretches over 10 km and covers an area of 465 hectares.
