2020-08-17

The data shows that in the second quarter (Q2) this year, amount to 11.645 million tons of cargoes were shipped by rail, an increase of 1.813 million tons over the first quarter and an increase of 18.4 percent from the previous quarter.

In June, 4.005 million tons of cargoes were handled, up 12.5 percent over April. On a year-on-year basis, the decline of railway freight volume in the province has narrowed from 14.1 per cent to 3.6 percent in the three months.

The steady recovery in railway freight volume was related to the resumption of work and production of enterprises. Rail freight is an important barometer of the economy, and the increase in volume indicates that Hubei’s economy has been picking up.

By June, the railway freight volume in the province had reached 96.4 percent of the same period last year, gradually returning to normal.
