"Thanks to decisive action and strong leadership of the government, China has brought the COVID-19 epidemic quickly under control and we can now go out without any worries," said Thomas Ramsey, an USprofessor at the Three Gorges University in Yichang, Hubei province.
Thomas Ramsey first came to Yichang in 2010, a city about five hours' drive from Wuhan which suffered most in China during the epidemic. Yichang closed all its exits on Jan 25 due to the then severe coronavirus outbreak. He witnessed China's battle against COVID-19.
During the outbreak, he chose to stay on campus and was treated with nothing but respect. "The university has published announcements in English to let us know the situation of the epidemic and provided us with daily protections such as facial masks and disinfection products," praised the American teacher. "With efficient administration of governments at all levels and coordination of all Chinese people, good results have been achieved quickly."
As China and its people face groundless accusations and stigma, Thomas decided to make his voice known. "This is not a Chinese virus or a Wuhan virus, the baseless accusations against the Chinese stem from fear and ignorance," he said, adding that countries all over the world should work together to break prejudices down.
"I'm going to renew my employment contract with the university. Life in the country is the safest. I love this land," he rejoiced.
