Hubei's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.7 percent year on year in 2020, the Hubei Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics(NBS) said on January 11.
The CPI edged up 0.8 percent on a monthly basis, compared with the 0.9-percent drop registered in November.
Food prices increased 1.7 percent year on year in December, reversing a 3.7-percent decline in November.
In breakdown, prices of vegetables, fruits and aquatic products posted a year-on-year rise of 11.2 percent, 2.9 percent and 2.6 percent in December, respectively, while those of pork and grain climbed 0.2 percent and 1.4 percent from a year earlier.
Growing consumer demand, rising costs and special weather conditions were the main factors that pushed the CPI back into positive territory.
