In the first half of 2020, Wuhan Port totally handled containers of 566,1000 TEUs. In June, particularly, the container throughput yielded 146,900 TEUs, an increase of 6.14 percent compared to the same period last year, said Wuhan New Port Administration Committee on June 30.
Wuhan plays the role as a transport hub in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, handling over 80 percent of the import-export goods as well as 80 percent of containers in the province. "This is the first year-over-year growth since the epidemic, showing city's port industry renewing vigor." said Zhang Lin, director of the administration committee.
This year, the container volume in Wuhan witnessed great loss due to the Covid-19 epidemic. To help companies concerned to face the challenges, Wuhan New Port has increased its efforts in four aspects, including the publication of preferential policies.
On May 9, the direct shipping route of containers to Japan, which reduces the journey time between Wuhan and Nagoya to six days, resumed service. So far, seven trips have been made on this line.
Wuhan Port plans to achieve container throughput of 1.7 million TEUs in 2020, while that of last year was 1.6894 million TEUs.
