Statistics on Hubei’s economic and social development in 2020

1. GDP
In 2020, Hubei's GDP stood at 4,344.346 billion yuan, a drop of 5.0 percent from the previous year. The primary industry completed an added value of 413.191 billion yuan, keeping the same growth rate of the previous year, while the secondary and the tertiary industries decreased 7.4 percent and 3.8 percent to 1,702.390 billion yuan and 2,228.765 billion yuan, respectively.
2. Employment
The employment situation is basically stable. The cities and towns across the province added 751,800 new jobs, exceeding the annual target and task. At the end of the year, the registered unemployment rate in the province was 3.35 percent.
3. Poverty reduction
Obvious results have been achieved in the fight against poverty. 58,000 poor people in the province have all been lifted out of poverty according to national standards. The annual per capita disposable income of rural residents in poverty-stricken areas was 13,075 yuan, an increase of 1.6 percent over the previous year.
4. Foreign trade
In 2020, the province's total import and export volume reached 429.41 billion yuan, an increase of 8.8 percent, of which, imports surged 9.1 percent to 159.21 billion yuan and exports rose 8.7 percent to 270.20 billion yuan. The EU became the largest trading partner of the province with a bilateral trade value of 59.52 billion yuan, up 17.1 percent.
296 foreign-invested projects were approved. The actual use of foreign capital for the year reached 10.352 billion U.S. dollars, a decline of 19.8 percent. Investment from Germany, the Netherlands, and Singapore bucked up by 92.5 percent, 27.3 percent, and 16.0 percent, respectively.
The foreign non-financial direct investment in 2020 amounted to 2.0 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.0 percent. The turnover of foreign contracted projects came to 6.415 billion U.S. dollars, down 3.0 percent.
