2020-12-18

Zhao Haishan, vice governor of Hubei Province met with British ambassador to China, Caroline Wilson CMG and her fellow workers on December 15, in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province.

On behalf of the provincial government, Zhao welcomed the ambassador to Hubei for the first time after taking office and gave a detailed introduction to Hubei's economic and social development. He pointed out that Hubei is a big province in China for its performance in economy, science and education, ecology and agriculture, with obvious advantages in geological location and abundant scientific and educational resources. At present, Hubei has made major progress in post-epidemic recovery, and the main economic indicators have continued to rally. With the support from the central government and the new development pattern, the province will usher in historic development opportunities.

Zhao added that in recent years, Hubei and the UK have achieved fruitful results in the fields of establishing sister cities, education, and environmental protection. During the epidemic, the UK provided material assistance and condolences to Hubei, and Hubei also shared anti-epidemic experience with the doctors in UK. It is hoped that the two sides will deepen cooperation in the fields of health and environmental protection, expand economic and trade exchanges, and encourage more companies to invest in Hubei.

Ambassador Wilson spoke highly of the people in Hubei for their efforts against the epidemic, and believed that UK and Hubei are highly complementary in many areas. She expected that the two sides will maintain frequent non-governmental exchanges, so as to push forward cooperation in epidemic prevention and control, medical treatment, economic and trade exchanges, climate change and biodiversity.
